Abstract: We report a case of calcinosis in dermatomyositis (DM) and review the literature of calcinosis in DM. The clinical data of 105 patients with calcinosis in dermatomyositis reported before was reviewed. Of 105 patients, 59 were female and 46 were male. The peak age was 1-12 years. The lesions limited to individual existing lesions in 21% patients and the most common site was buttocks and limbs. Typical nodules and plaques are the most common lesions and 3.8% patients had calcified fluid or calcified cystic lesions, and 14.3% had severe joint contracture and deformity. The risks for calcinosis in dermatomyositis included prolonged active inflammation, local invisible injury, and positive anti-NXP-2 antibody. Various therapies have been used for calcinosis in DM, such as a combination of different drugs, and drugs combination with surgical removal of the calcium deposits. TNF-ɑ inhibitors have been tried in a few case reports.
