Blue toe syndrome: two cases report

Abstract: Blue toe syndrome (BTS) is a rare manifestation of acute peripheral arterial occlusion characterized by sudden onset of painful, bluish discoloration of one or more toes, pain and coldness. Two cases of blue toe syndrome were reported. Patient 1 developed dry gangrene with erythema, swelling and pain of left toe. The patient had a history of diabetes and was treated conservatively with toe necrosis. Patient 2 was covered by brown scab with purple patch on left toe. Ultrasound examination showed that the vascular lumen in the lesion was thin and the blood flow velocity was slow. The patient improved after referral to vascular surgery department. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment of BTS are essential to avoid serious consequences.
