Abstract: Objective: To assess the efficacy of large spot size, low-fluence 1064 nm Q-switched neodymiumdoped yttrium aluminum garnet (QS Nd:YAG) laser in the treatment of facial freckles. Methods: Fifteen patients with facial freckles were treated with large spot size, 1064 nm QS Nd:YAG laser with wavelength of 1064 nm, pulse width of 10 ns, spot size of 7 mm, energy density of 1.5-2.0 J/cm2 and frequency of 10 Hz, once every 2-3 weeks for 3-5 times. The efficacy was assessed by two dependent dermatologists and the patients themselves. The patients were followed up for 6 months after the last treatment. Results: The color of 76%-100% lesions lightened in 8 patients, 51%-75% in 4, 26%-50% in 3. After treatment, all the cases presented with mild erythema which only lasted for several hours. The lesions relapsed in two patients after6 months of followed up. Conclusion: Large sport size, low-fluence 1064 nm QS Nd:YAG laser treatment is effective in the treatment of facial freckles.
