Reconstruction of medial canthal skin defects with local flaps:report of 11 cases

Abstract: Objective: To assess the effects of reconstruction of medial canthal defects with local flaps.Methods: 11 cases with medial canthal defects were treated with local skin flap.The defect area was varied from 1.2cm×1.2cm to1.8cm×2.5cm.According to the size and location of the defects,difierent loeal flaps such as glabellar flaps,rhomboid skin flap ,subcutaneous "kite" flap and combination of these local flaps were selected and designed to repair the skin defects. Results: After 10 months to 3 years follow up ,all the flaps survived with satisfactory esthetic results and no tumor recurrence occurred. Conclusions: Suitable local flaps with maintaining and restoring the cosmetic unit integrity of inner canthus can lead to a satisfied restoration of function and appearance.
