Clinical analysis of 84 aged patients with syphilis

Abstract: Objective: To determine the clinical and serological characteristics of aged patients with syphilis. Methods: The clinical data of 84 aged patients with syphilis firstly diagnosed and treated in our hospital from January 2013 to January 2015 were analyzed retrospectively. Results: Of 84 patients, there were 51 males and 33 females. Five patients were diagnosed as primary syphilis, 7 as secondary, 3 as tertiary and 69 as?latent?syphilis. Thirty-six males and five females had the history of extramarital sex. TPPA and RPR test were positive in 84 patients. Sixty-seven patients completed?antisyphilitic?treatments and were followed up for 2 years. RPR test became negative in 30 patients during 24 months after treatment. Conclusion: Latent syphilis is predominant and 70% patients have the history of extramarital sex.
