Abstract: An 81-year-old male presented with erythema and black scabs on his back, accompanied by pain for a week. Pathological examination demonstrated fungal infection. Fungal culture and PCR sequencing identified Rhizopus arrhizus. The diagnosis of cutaneous mucormycosis was made. The patient suffered from multiple underlying diseases and received moxibustion treatment before the onset of the disease. Systemic antifungal therapy and debridement of back lesions were given, and the underlying diseases were actively treated. After 5-month follow-up, the edges of the skin lesions healed, while the central part did not heal, which might be related to the necrosis and the relatively deep debridement in the central part.

Key words: Rhizopus arrhizus, mucormycosis, necrotic lesion
