Abstract: Objective: To determine the correlation between serum vitamin D levels and severity of atopic dermatitis (AD)in children. Methods: The serum level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OHD)in 100 children with AD was detected. Serum vitamin D levels were classified as sufficient (>75nmol/L), insufficient (50-75nmol/L) and deficient (<50nmol/L). The severity of AD were classified as mild (0-25), moderate (25-50) and severe (>50) by Scoring Atopotic Dermatitis Index. The relationship between the serum vitamin D levels and the severity of atopotic dermatitis was detected by multiple linear regressions. Results: Five patients were classified as mild AD, of them, 25-hydroxyvitamin D was sufficient in one patient, insufficient in 3 and deficient in 2. Thirty six patients were classified as moderate AD, of them, 25-hydroxyvitamin D was sufficient in 9 patients, insufficient in 11 and deficient in 16. Fifty eight patients were classified as severe AD, of them, 25-hydroxyvitamin D was sufficient in 8 patients, insufficient in 16 and deficient in 34. The multivariate analysis showed that the vitamin D deficiency was related with the severity of AD. Conclusion: The level of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D was associated with the severity of AD.
