Infectious granuloma due to Mycobacterium fortuitum: a case report

Abstract: A 41-year-old man presented with a 2-month history of scattered tender nodules, plaques in his trunk and lower limbs. Before the onset of lesions, he was injured on the lateral right thigh and swam in a river. Histopathological examination revealed a dermal infectious granuloma. Mycobacterium fortuitum was confirmed by bacteria identification and PCR. No immunological or infection-related mutation was found by whole exome sequencing. The diagnosis of infectious granuloma due to Mycobacterium fortuitum was made. The patient was treated with levofloxacin, clarithromycin, abscess incision, drainage etc., and the condition improved obviously.
