Lupus vulgaris on the face: a case report and literature review

Abstract: We reported a case of lupus vulgaris and reviewed the ralated literature in the past 10 years. Thrity-four cases were included, the age ranged from 3 to 88 years old. The lesions usually occured in exposed areas, including on the head, face and neck in 32 patients, on the buttocks in one patient, and on the left breast in one patient. The course of the patients was from 3 months to 60 years. Twenty-nine (85.29%) cases were misdiagnosed, including being misdiagnosed as dermatitis and eczema, tinea corporis, lupus erythematosus and so on. These cases were improved or cured after being given standard anti-tuberculosis treatment, four of the them developed to secondary squamous cell carcinoma.
