Dermoscopic characteristics of 10 patients with pilomatricoma

Abstract: Objective: To analyze dermoscopic features in 10 cases of pilomatricoma and offer some help for diagnosis. Methods: The data of 10 patients with pilomatricoma who undergoing the dermoscopic examination and pathological examination were analyzed. Results: A total of 10 patients were collected, including 5 males and 5 females, ageing from 3-22. The lesions were located on the head and face in seven cases (70%), on the upper limbs two cases (20%) , and on the neck in one case (10%). The preliminary clinical diagnosis included piloblastoma, skin neoplasms, keloid, granuloma pyogenicum, epidermal cyst, molluscum contagiosum, sebaceous gland hyperplasia and Spitz nevus, and the coincidence rate of clinical diagnosis was only 20%. The most common dermoscopic features of trichoderma included yellow-white homogeneous area (90%), purplish red homogeneous area (80%), irregular branched vessels (60%), and white streaks (60%).  Conclusion: The misdiagnosis rate of trichommatoma is high. The most common dermoscopic features of trichoderma are yellow-white homogeneous area, purplish red homogeneous area, irregular branched vessels, and white streaks.
