Survey on the quality of STD care services among 1157 medical institutions in China

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the current situation of STD services at medical institutions, in order to provide better STD care services. Methods: A survey with a questionnaire was conducted. The STD care services institutions in all ever China was sampled in 2015. The data collected from the survey were analyzed using SAS 9.2 software. Results: One thousand one hundred and fifty-seven institutions were selected. In the past three years, 53.0% of doctors and 44.6% of laboratory technicians attended training course for STD services. The rules and regulations at 70.8% of STD clinics and 94.0% of laboratories were set up. Benzathine penicillin was provided in 70.4% of the institutions. Both non-specific and specific syphilis serological tests were provided in 78.4% of the institutions. However, no syphilis tests were provided in 5.7% institutions. Most medical institutions had certain forms of intervention services at STD clinics, such as bulletin boards and posters. In the past 3 years, 90% of medical institutions passed the quality control program for syphilis laboratory tests. Conclusion: In recent years, the capacity of providing standardized STD services at different level of medical institutions has been improved greatly, but effort in providing Benzedrine penicillin should be strengthened and the ability in providing intervention services at STD clinics needs to be further improved.
