Efficacy of NB-UVB combined with ketoconazole lotion and itraconazole in the treatment of moderate to severe Malassezia folliculitis

Abstract: Objective: To assess the efficacy of NB-UVB combined with ketoconazole lotion and itraconazole in the treatment of moderate to severe Malassezia folliculitis. Methods: One hundred and eighty one outpatients with moderate to severe Malassezia folliculitis were divided into three groups randomly. Fifty eight patients in group A were treated with NB-UVB, ketoconazole lotion and oral itraconazole. Sixty patients in group B were treated with ketoconazole lotion and oral itraconazole. Sixty three patients in group C were treated with oral itraconazole only. NB-UVB was given 3 times, for 4 weeks, ketoconazole lotion once a day and itraconazole 100mg, once a day for 4 weeks. Results: The total effective rates of group A, B and C was 91.38%, 78.33% and 61.90% and the average cure time was 27.80±3.15/d,32.13±3.98/d and 35.83±3.42/d. Conclusion: NB-UVB combined with ketoconazole lotion and itraconazole is more effective than itraconazole alone in the treatment of moderate to severe Malassezia folliculitis.
