Abstract: Objective: To assess the efficacy of tranexamic acid combined with fractional non ablative laser in the treatment of melasma. Methods: One hundred and twenty seven patients were randomly divided into tranexamic acid combined with laser group (43 patients), laser group (39 patients) and tranexamic acid group (45 patients). The patients in tranexamic acid combined with laser group and laser group were treated with non ablative laser, once a month for 4-5 times. The patients in tranexamic acid combined with laser group and tranexamic acid group were treated with tranexamic acid, 250 mg, twice a day for 6 months. Results: The effective rate in the tranexamic acid combined with laser group was 90.7%, which was higher than those in the laser group (66.67%) and the tranexamic acid group (64.44%), with significant differences (P<0.05). The decreased index in the tranexamic acid combined with laser group was 0.62±0.08, which was higher than that in the laser group (0.41±0.05) and the tranexamic acid group (0.39±0.13), with significant differences (P<0.05). Conclusion: The treatment of ranexamic acid combined with fractional non ablative laser is more effective than ranexamic acid or fractional nonablative laser alone in the treatment of melasma.
