Abstract: Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of ruby dot matrix laser combined with intense pulsed light in the treatment of melasma. Methods: One hundred and two patients with melasma were firstly treated with ruby dot matrix laser (energy density of 2.5~3.5 J/cm2) and followed by intense pulsed light after 2 weeks. The treatment was repeated every 4 weeks for 4 times. The severity and the area of melasma were assessed by melisma area severity index (MASI). The recurrence and adverse reaction were also assessed. The therapeutic efficacy was assessed in 6 months after the end of the treatment. Results: Five patients (4.90%) were cured, 69 patients (67.65%) improved remarkably, 26 patients (25.49%) improved and 2 patients were not effective. There were no side effects in all the patients. Conclusion: Ruby dot matrix laser combined with intense pulsed light is safe and effective in the treatment of melasma.
