Analysis of mycoses and pathogenic fungi in 65751 patients with fungal infection

Abstract: To determine the mycoses and pathogenic fungi species in 65751 patients from Shandong Provincial Hospital for Skin Diseases. Methods: The clinical data of patients who tested positive for fungi were retrospectively analyzed. Results: Out of 65751 patients, 22855 patients was positive for fungi by direct microscopy and/or culture, giving a positivity rate of 35%.There were 11 kinds of diseases and the most common diseases were tinea pedis (5054 patients), followed by onychomycosis (3866 patients) and tinea cruris (3071 patients). Five thousand eight hundred and eighty four strains were isolated and the most were T. rubrum (3794 strains (64.46%), followed by Candida 943 strains (16.03%) and T. mentagrophytes 558 strains (9.48%). Conclusion: The mopst common fungal diseases are tinea pedis, onychomycosis and tinea cruris and the most common causative agents are trichophyta and Candida species in our hospital.
