First case of M-pox virus clade Ib infection identified in Shandong Province

Abstract: In May 2026, the first case of M-pox virus clade Ib infection was identified in Shandong Province, and the case is reported herein. A 33-year-old male patient presented with disseminated papulovesicles for 10 days, accompanied by ulcers on the mons pubis, genital swelling and pain, and fever for 5 days. The patient had a history of unprotected homosexual contact two weeks ago. Skin lesion samples tested positive for MPXV-qPCR with the Ib clade (cycle threshold value: 17.441).
