Secondary syphilitic eruption misdiagnosed as verruca plantaris: a case report

Abstract: A 48-year-old male presented with scattered brown papules on the right soles of the foot for more than one month. The verruca plantaris were misdiagnosed and treated with laser and liquid nitrogen cryotherapy for several times, with poor effect. Preoperative examination showed syphilis ELISA(+), TRUST(+)1〖DK(〗∶〖DK)〗64. The patient was diagnosed with secondary syphilis. The skin lesions completely disappeared after three times of treatment with benzathine penicillin.
