Epidemiological characteristics analysis of leprosy new cases in Jiangsu Province from 2011 to 2020

Abstract: Objective: To analyze the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of leprosy new cases in Jiangsu Province from 2011 to 2020, and to provide reference for formulating prevention and control strategies. Methods: The data of leprosy new cases from 2011 to 2020 in Jiangsu Province from LEPMIS were analyzed by descriptive epidemiological method. Results: From 2011 to 2020, a total of 172 new cases of leprosy were reported in Jiangsu Province. The annual discovery rate decreased from 0.034/105 to 0.007/105. Eighty-seven leprosy new cases (50.58%) were from Northern Jiangsu, 34 cases (19.77%) were from Central Jiangsu, 45 were from (26.16%) in Southern Jiangsu and 6 cases were unknown. Dermatology outpatient visits accounted for 61.05%. From an analysis of the clinical characteristics, including 151(87.79%)MB cases, 119(69.19%)cases exceed five skin lesion, 79 cases(45.93%) exceed two nerve damage or more, 121 positive cases(70.35%) of acid-fast staining and 44 cases(25.58%) of grade 2 disabilities. Conclusion: From 2011 to 2020, the leprosy new cases in Jiangsu Province shows a downward trend, the majority of new cases come from the northern part of Jiangsu, the rate of MB cases and grade 2 disabilities are high.
