Abstract: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS)/Acne inversa (AI) is an inflammatory systemic disease characterised by involvement of the pilosebaceous unit, predominantly affecting intimate areas of the body such as the axillary and inguinal sites. The disease initially presents as painful nodules and abscesses, which may progress to pus-discharging tunnels and scars, significantly impairing patients' quality of life. A pathway triggered by B cell activation, involving immune complex deposition and complement activation is considered the key of pathogenic mechanisms in HS. Understanding the role of B cells may offer new strategies in curing HS patients. Based on recent domestic and international research, this paper reviews current evidence on B cells in the pathogenesis of HS/AI.
