Lipedematous scalp and lipedematous alopecia: a case report

Abstract: A 52-year-old female presented with scalp swelling and hair loss for more than 3 months. Dermatological examination showed scalp swelling and thickening, a well-defined alopecia patch in the thickened area at the top of the head. Dermatoscopy showed a significant reduction of hair follicles in the alopecia area, and brown ring structures around the hair follicles. The pathology showed that the subcutaneous adipose tissue consisting of mature adipose cells, and was thickened and moved upward. The diagnosis of lipedematous scalp and lipedematous alopiciawas was made. The clinical manifestations are benign, and effective treatments are currently lacking.
