Efficacy of ceftriaxone sodium combined with aripiprazolein in the treatment of psychiatric symptoms of the patients with neurosyphilis

Abstract: To assess the efficacy of ceftriaxone sodium combined with aripiprazolein in the treatment of psychiatric symptoms of the patients with neurosyphilis. Methods: The cases of neurosyphilis with psychiatric symptoms in our hospital from February 2013 to September 2014 were collected. All patients were given intravenous infusion of ceftriaxone sodium, 2g, once a day, for 2 weeks, combined with oral aripiprazole, 10-15mg, once a day, for 6 weeks. The Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) score, symptoms of mental illness the clinical global impression scale severity score (CGI-SI). Adverse reactions were recorded. All the patients were followed up for 3 years. Results: Six four patients were collected. The general psychiatric symptoms score, positive symptom score and total score of PANSS and CGI-SI score decreased in the patients after treated for 6 weeks and there was significant differences compared with those before treatment (Ps<0.05). The total clinical effective rate of mental symptoms was 65.63% (42/64). The adverse reaction in the patients was 14.06% (9/64), and all the adverse reactions were mild. After 3 years of follow-up, the negativity rate of RPR in the 64 patients was 96.88% (62/64), the normal rate of cerebrospinal fluid was 98.44%(63/64)and the recurrence rate was 4.69% (3/64). Conclusion: Ceftriaxone sodium combined with aripiprazole in the treatment of psychiatric symptoms of the patients with neurosyphilis is effective and safe.
