Mycobacterium murinum skin infection: a case report

Abstract: A 38-year-old female's both hands were injured by fish bones when dealing with sea bass. Later infiltrating plaques and ulcerations appeared at the injured sites. Debridement, antimicrobial and antifungal therapy were not effective. The pathological examination showed infectious granuloma. Additionally, Mycobacterium murinum was identified by tissue culture and DNA detection. After 3 months of treatment with rifampicin, clarithromycin and ethambutol, the lesions subsided completely, leaving atrophic scars. No recurrence was observed among one-year followup.
