Epidemiological characteristics of the spatial distribution of new leprosy cases in Gansu Province from 2000 to 2020

Abstract: Objective: To analyze the spatial distribution characteristics of new leprosy cases in Gansu Province from 2000 to 2020 to identify aggregation areas and provide a reference for leprosy prevention and control. Methods: ArcGIS10.8 and GeoDa1.6 software were used to analyze the leprosy incidence in Gansu Province from 2000 to 2020 and identified its spatial distribution pattern and incidence hotspot areas. Results: Of 87 counties/districts, 14 cities/prefectures , new cases were reported in 32 counties (districts, cities),8 cities/prefectures, which demonstrating the new leprosy characteristic of low incidence, scattered distribution in Gansu Province. Global autocorrelation analysis revealed a significant aggregated distribution of leprosy incidence in Gansu Province, and hot spot analysis demonstrated that high aggregation areas of leprosy were mainly concentrated in Kang County, Wen County, Wudu District, and Hui County. Conclusion: Leprosy incidence appears area clustering in Gansu Province, the effective targeted measures in these areas are needed.
