Analysis of death of 396 patients with leprosy in hospital

Abstract: Objective: To analyze the causes of death of inpatients with leprosy in our hospital since 1992, in order to provide the basis for formulating countermeasures to improve the quality of life of leprosy patients after recovery. Methods: Descriptive analysis were performed on the death of leprosy patients and foster rest workers. Results: A total of 396 patients (309 males and 87 females) died in our hospital since 1992. Among them, 373 patients (94.20%) died in foster care after recovery and 23 patients (5.80%) died during combined chemotherapy. The average age of death was 70.89 years old, ranging from 18 to 96 years old, and patients aged 70-89 died the most ( 61.61%), followed by aged 50-69 (32.07%) aged10-29 (0.76%). The main causes of death were cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases ( 136 cases, 34.3%) followed by (64 cases,16.2%). Conclusion: In our hospital, the death rate of patients aged 70-89 is the highest. Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and malignant tumors are the main causes of death of leprosy patients in our hospital.
