Abstract: Objective: To assess the clinical efficacy of holmium laser combined with photodynamic therapy in the treatment of 19 patients with refractory basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and 7 patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Methods: Firstly the lesion was removed by holmium laser, then followed by photodynamic therapy. The clinical efficacy was assessed after 12 to 18 months. Results: The lesions were complete remission in 10 cases (8 of BCC, 2 of SCC), partial remission more than 50% in 9 cases (6 of BCC, 3 of SCC) and the total effective rate was 73.08%. Conclusion: Holmium laser combined with photodynamic therapy is effective in the treatment of refractory BCC and SCC on head and face.
