Update of Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction in syphilis

Abstract: Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction (JHR) can occur after first dose of antibiotics in several hours for the treatment of syphilis. JHR is characterized by fever, headache, exacerbation of existing cutaneous lesions and a series of physiological changes. The clinical manifestation, mechanism and prevention or treatment of JHR in syphilis is reviewed in this article.
