Role of ceramide in human skin

Abstract: Ceramide is mainly located in the epidermis, which is the main lipid of the skin. Ceramide plays an important role in the moisturizing, signal transduction, immune regulation and other functions. The change of ceramide content may result in the impairment of the skin barrier and relevant skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, etc. The role of ceramide in human skin is reviewed in this article.
