Abstract: Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by intense pruritus and recurrent episodes. Pruritus is regarded as a core manifestation of atopic dermatitis, with an especially complex underlying mechanism. Recent studies have indicated that neuroimmune interactions and skin barrier dysfunction play key roles in atopic dermatitis-related pruritus. This paper reviews the the pruritus-related mechanisms and advances in therapeutic approaches.
