Abstract: Ceramide (Cer) consist of a long-chain sphingosine or a related long chain base linked to fatty acid. As an important lipid in epidermis, ceramide doesn't only contribute to the formation of skin barrier, but also plays an important role in the regulation of skin immunity, cell cycle, differentiation and apoptosis. The abnormal anabolism of ceramide is related to many skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. The update of the ceramide and related dermatosis is reviewed in this paper.
