Analysis of new cases of leprosy in Shaanxi Province

Abstract: The data of the new leprosy patients in Shaanxi Province from 2004 to 2020 were collected through the information system of LEPMIS. Three hundred and five cases (212 males and 93 females) were included, including 272 (89.18%) with paucibacillary leprosy (MB) leprosy and 33 (10.82%) with paucibacillary (PB) leprosy. There were 49 patients older than 60 years, 247 with the age from 20 to 59 years, 9 younger than 20 years. One hundred patients (32.8%) had a history of household contact. Of 305 cases, 42 (13.8%) had leprosy reaction, 247 (81%) had nerve damage, and the occurrence rate in males was higher than in females (86.3% vs 68.8%). Two hundred and eighteen patients (71.5%) had disabilities including grade II disability in 122 and grade II disability in 96 patients.
