Epidemiological characteristics of monkeypox in Haidian District, Beijing

Abstract: The data of the patients with monkeypox from June 10, 2023 to April 30, 2024 in Haidian District were analyzed through descriptive analysis, to understand the epidemiological characteristics of mpox. A total of 20 cases with mpox were analyzed, all were males, 85.0% (17/20) of whom were men who have sex with men (MSM). The median age was 28 years old (IQR: 26.5-32.5). Of all cases, 95.0% (19/20) had rash, 65.0% (13/20) had fever, and 35.0% (7/20) had lymphadenopathy, the rashes were mostly on the genitals and perianal area (65.0%, 13/20). Among these mpox cases, there were 3 cases of HIV co-infection (15.0%, 3/20) and 3 cases of syphilis co-infection (15.0%, 3/20). The main hospitals for reporting cases are infectious disease hospitals (84.21%, 16/19), and the main departments for reporting are dermatology (57.89%, 11/19) and fever clinics (36.84%, 7/19). All seven sequences of monkeypox virus (mpxv) belonged to the West African clade IIb of the mpxv, C.1 lineage. Mpox cases were characterized by sporadicity in Haidian District, MSM population was a high-risk group.
