Management of the complications of severe cutaneous adverse drug eruption: report of five cases and literature review

Abstract: The clinical manifestation and treatment of 5 cases with complications of severe cutaneous adverse drug eruption (SDE) were reported and relevant literature was reviewed. Out of 5 patients, 3 were complicated by secondary infection, one by impairment of digestive tract, one by hematological system, multi-organ function failure such as heart, brain, kidney and lung. All patients were given sufficient corticosteroids as soon as possible. Three patients were given additional intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). Meticulous nursing care and supportive therapies were given with other disciplines. The outcome of the treatment was good.
