Abstract: Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of leprosy in Guangxi province Methods: The data of leprosy epidemic in Guangxi from 2006 to 2015 was collected and analyzed. Results: From 2006 to 2015 707 new cases were diagnosed. The average detection rate was 0.182/100 000 in the first 5 years and 0.117/100 000 in the last 5 years, while the prevalence rate was 0.618/100 000 and 0.496/100 000, respectively. Many new cases were detected in Baise, Hechi and Chongzuo, accounting for 46.53% of all the new cases. Among the newly diagnosed cases, the grade 2 disability rate was 25.88%. Multibacillary and paucibacillary patients accounted for 73.69% and 26.31%, respectively; Children under 14 years old accounted for 2.40%. 58.27% of the new patients were diagnosed through skin clinics. Conclusion: The epidemic trend was decreased, but the grade 2 disability rate is still high. Most new cases were detected in some pocket areas. Therefore, efforts in early detection of new cases should be strengthened in former endemic areas.
