Dermoscopic analysis of 26 misdiagnosed cases with molluscum contagiosum

Abstract: The data of 26 misdiagnosed patients with molluscum contagiosum (MC) in our hospital from Aug. 2019 to Jan. 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. Of 26 patients, 5 were misdiagnosed as itchy rash, 4 as eczema, 3 as folliculitis, 3 as skin tumor, 3 as millet pimples, 2 as furuncle, 1 as yellow granuloma, 1 as warts, 1 as scar, 1 as scabies nodules, 1 as keratinized acanthoma and 1 was undiagnosed. Specific structure of MC including centrally located white structures and surcrown-like vessels around, was found in all 26 patients under the dermatoscope. The white structures included four-leaved clover-like in 10 cases, polylobular in 7, roundish in 5 and non-specific in 1, four-leaved clover-like + polylobular in 1, four-leaved clover-like + roundish in 1 and roundish + polylobular in 1.
